An inventory clerk, also known as an inventory associate or stock control clerk, manages and tracks inventory in a warehouse or store:
- Analyzing: Analyzes previous data to help the company make decisions
- Improving: Comes up with process improvements to benefit the organization
- Maintaining: Ensures items are stored in the appropriate places
- Preventing loss: Implements a loss prevention program
- Counting: Counts and tracks inventory, and keeps detailed records of counts
- Auditing: Performs audits to ensure records match physical products
- Reporting: Reports discrepancies between recorded and available products to management
- Receiving: Receives deliveries, unloads products, and keeps delivery records
- Stocking: Restocks depleted products
- Ordering: Places orders for more inventory
Inventory clerks may also help customers retrieve products from the storage area.
Inventory clerks should be professional, adaptable, dependable, and have initiative. They should also be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in various units of measure.
