KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 

Operates hi-tech, complex press equipment utilizing the following standard methods: Completes all work tasks during make-readies and other press downtime situations. Assists with the webbing up of the printing press. Adjusts folder controls to properly maintain accurate fold. Monitors product quality for color, register, glue and sample requirements and re-adjusts guides and controls to rectify errors. Verifies product information, market and shipping destination. Monitors product waste. Operates press splicer. Replaces worn or damaged disposable parts. Completes preventive maintenance assignments and initiates work orders. Develops job skill levels and equipment knowledge necessary for advancement. Assists the Head Press Operator with maintaining accurate record keeping, press time sheets and other logs or forms as necessary. 

Cleans and stocks press with needed supplies: Assists with the removal of waste ink, used printing plates, and press side garbage. Cleans press water systems and changes filters. Changes slip-sheets at the printing units. Manually dips ink into printing press when needed. Completes cleaning program assignments. 

Team Responsibilities: Assists the Head Press Operator with training and development of co-workers. Assists the Head Press Operator in planning and delegating work assignments. Performs Head Press Operator responsibilities when needed. Reports any unmanageable print or press defects to the Head Press Operator or Supervisor. Assists with manual signature stacking when needed. Other duties as assigned. 

EDUCATION 

High School Diploma or GED (Required) 

• Prefer completion of designated Press Assistant training levels. 

EXPERIENCE 

0-2 years Press related experience (Preferred) 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES 

 

Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. 

Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Desire to learn and complete training levels. 

Good Mechanical ability, 

Ability to work on a team with minimal supervision. 

Must not be afraid to get dirty due to heavy clean-up of ink and dust debris. 

Ability to work a 12 hour rotating shift with overtime requirements. 

EQUIPMENT/SOFTWARE UTILIZED 

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of manufacturing 

software; Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software. 

COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS 

Informs Head Press Operator and press team of pertinent information and communicates to 

other departments as necessary. 

DECISION MAKING 

• Assists Head Press Operator in making press related decisions resulting in performance in 

the areas of production, waste and quality.
