A dock lead's responsibilities include: 
  • Labeling boxes: Accurately labeling boxes and preparing freight for shipment 
  • Using equipment: Safely loading and unloading trailers using equipment such as hand trucks, pallets jacks, and forklifts 
  • Coordinating loading and unloading: Ensuring merchandise is loaded and unloaded efficiently, accurately, and safely 
  • Leading dockhands and forklift operators: Providing guidance to dock operatives and leading forklift operators 
  • Maintaining inventory: Ensuring inventory levels are maintained and that warehouse space is functional 
  • Ensuring safety: Establishing and monitoring safety and security procedures and protocols 
  • Managing conflict: Resolving conflicts and issues between team members and customers 
  • Protecting assets: Protecting company assets and confidential information 
  • Using handheld scanners: Tracking and maneuvering freight through a distribution network 

Dock leads may also oversee logistics cross dock operations.
