A receiving clerk, also known as a shipping and receiving clerk, is responsible for the receipt and processing of incoming deliveries at a warehouse or stockroom. Their duties include:
- Preparing: Preparing outbound shipments for delivery
- Packaging: Packaging products for return to vendors
- Tracking: Tracking shipment schedules for incoming and outgoing shipments
- Notifying: Notifying management personnel when there aren’t enough of a particular product to fulfill orders
- Unloading: Unloading delivery trucks and operating forklifts or hand trucks to move items into the warehouse
- Inspecting: Checking incoming shipments against packing lists and purchase orders to ensure items match and are undamaged
- Updating inventory: Keeping track of inventory counts and updating product inventory in the database
- Communicating: Communicating with drivers and suppliers to monitor the location of items
