Metallurgical HEAT TREATING Lab Technician

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Examine test samples to determine their physical properties including making metallurgical mounts, polishing, and etching metal specimens
• Conduct routine hardness tests by using Rockwell hardness tester, automatic micro hardness tester and microscopic examination of metals and alloys to determine their characteristics
• Ensure acceptance and qualification tests are conducted in accordance with customer specifications and engineering drawings
• Microscopically investigate the surfaces and measure surface layer characteristics, grain sizes and phases present
• Setting up, operating, and maintaining laboratory equipment per required procedures
• Complying with all state and company regulations
• Perform daily calibrations
• Other duties as required

Position Requirements

• Minimum of high school diploma
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications
• Minimum 1 year experience in preparing test specimen/coupons preferred
• Must demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn
• Must have a basic understanding of math
• Must pay attention to detail
• Must have basic manual dexterity to handle small items
• Must have sufficient visual capabilities to use a microscope and interpret digital images
• On the job training will be provided for the qualified candidate.

Preferred Qualifications

• High School Diploma with experience working in a laboratory setting
• Quality, machining, or manufacturing background
• Technical understanding of manufacturing processes
• Familiarity with safety standards/product liability
